The White House orders Smithsonian museums to revise exhibits to align with Trump’s perspective on US history

Posted on August 16, 2025 By admin

Donald Trump has directed the Smithsonian Institution to review its exhibits to align with his vision of American history. A White House letter to Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch, following Trump’s March executive order, urged the removal of “divisive” content and its replacement with “unifying, historically accurate” language. A report is expected within 30 days.

The Smithsonian pushed back, emphasizing its commitment to “scholarly excellence, rigorous research, and factual history,” though it agreed to review the letter. The move follows controversy at the National Museum of American History, which recently removed a temporary label about Trump’s impeachments.

While the Smithsonian called it a routine update, critics see political interference. The order has sparked debate over historical accuracy, institutional independence, and whether the White House is attempting to rewrite history.
