Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson’s love story began on Broadway in 1993 when they starred together in Anna Christie. Their chemistry was undeniable — even though Richardson was married at the time. After her marriage ended, the two wed in 1994 and went on to have two sons, Micheál and Daniel. Their bond was strong, both on and off the stage. Richardson once told Country Living, “I’m glad women fall in love with him because I know why.” Their happiness seemed complete — until tragedy struck in 2009.
While skiing in Quebec, Natasha suffered a head injury. Initially dismissing it as minor, her condition rapidly worsened. Doctors soon determined she was brain dead. Honoring a promise they’d made, Neeson made the heartbreaking decision to take her off life support after family and friends said their goodbyes.
Years later, their eldest son, Micheál, followed in his parents’ footsteps, appearing in Anchorman 2, Vox Lux, and Made in Italy — the latter alongside his father. In tribute to his mother, he changed his last name to Richardson. “It was mostly a tribute to my mother,” he told The Times. “A way to carry her with me.”

Neeson was deeply moved by the gesture, calling it “a lovely tribute.” Micheál continues to honor his mother through his craft, keeping her memory alive through the family’s shared passion for film and storytelling — a lasting legacy born from love, loss, and devotion.
