In 1961, he teamed up with Stookey and Travers under manager Albert Grossman, launching Peter, Paul and Mary into folk stardom with hits like “If I Had a Hammer” and “Lemon Tree.”

Beyond music, Yarrow was deeply involved in activism, performing at the 1963 March on Washington and speaking out against the Vietnam War. In 1999, he founded Operation Respect to combat bullying in schools.

His legacy was complicated by a 1970 conviction for taking indecent liberties with a minor, for which President Jimmy Carter later granted him a pardon.

Yarrow leaves behind a lasting influence on American folk music and social justice.
