Barron and Melania Trump’s U.S. Citizenship at Risk? MAGA Ally’s Threat Raises Questions

Posted on January 3, 2026January 3, 2026 By admin

Ohio MAGA senator Bernie Moreno has proposed a controversial bill that could impact Melania and Barron Trump’s citizenship status. Moreno, born in Colombia and a U.S. citizen since 18, introduced the ‘Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025,’ which would require dual nationals to relinquish their other citizenship and pledge exclusive allegiance to the U.S.

The bill states that anyone with dual citizenship must choose between the two countries. It would mandate that individuals who voluntarily acquire foreign citizenship after the bill’s enactment relinquish their U.S. citizenship. Moreno emphasized that being an American is an “honor and privilege” that is “all or nothing,” and plans to have the Department of Homeland Security and State Department monitor dual citizens, giving them a year to give up their other nationality or lose U.S. citizenship automatically.

If passed, Melania and Barron would face a choice: drop their Slovenian citizenship or their U.S. citizenship. Barron, born in March 2006, is a U.S. citizen by birth, while Melania gained citizenship in 2006 via a visa for individuals with extraordinary ability, according to a Washington Post investigation.

While Melania’s citizenship was obtained through a special visa, Barron’s citizenship is due to his birth in the U.S., which Trump’s proposed measures aim to challenge. The Trump administration has already attempted to restrict birthright citizenship, but those efforts are currently in court. Moreno’s bill raises questions about the future of dual citizenship and the legal status of the Trump family.
