William Trump, 25, a Wheelchair User, Shares His Story with His Father, Fred Trump III

Posted on January 10, 2026 By admin

William Trump’s life has inspired his father, Fred C. Trump III, to champion disability awareness. Fred, a nephew of Donald Trump, shares their story in his memoir, All in the Family, which explores family bonds amid challenges. William was born with a rare KCNQ2 genetic mutation, leading to severe seizures and developmental disabilities. His early years were filled with medical crises, leaving his family searching for answers for 15 years before diagnosis.

Despite these obstacles, William enjoyed many joys—swimming, peanut butter sandwiches, and reggae music. Now a young adult, he uses a wheelchair and is nonverbal. He recently moved into a specialized group home in Connecticut, ensuring consistent care while staying close to family.

Fred has turned William’s journey into advocacy, emphasizing that people with profound disabilities deserve respect and meaningful lives. He uses his platform to push for better caregiver training, expanded housing options, and early medical intervention. Fred also raises awareness at events like the American Association of People with Disabilities.

William benefits from private therapies, including music and aquatic activities, made possible by his family’s resources. Fred hopes to make such support accessible to all families, regardless of income. Together with his wife Lisa, Fred continues to advocate for families navigating developmental disabilities, using William’s story to drive change and foster understanding.
