You Won’t Believe This Storage Silo Is Now a Two-Bedroom House

Posted on January 17, 2026 By admin

A scenic drive along Highway 50 into rural Chase County, Kansas, leads travelers away from daily stress and into wide-open skies, rolling fields, and a slower pace of life. It’s the kind of landscape that encourages quiet reflection and a true sense of escape. Tucked among soybean fields and a peaceful creek valley sits the Owl’s Nest Silo House, a unique retreat designed for rest and privacy.

Nearby is a handcrafted log cabin built in 2019 as a small weekend getaway. Blending rustic charm with modern comfort, the cabin quickly proved popular with visitors seeking authentic, nature-focused stays. The project was led by Gerald Wiens, who originally planned to rent the cabin only occasionally.

Instead, interest exceeded expectations—especially during the pandemic, when travelers began searching for uncrowded, peaceful destinations. In one year alone, the cabin was booked for more than 180 nights, revealing a strong demand for rural escapes. That success inspired the next phase of the project: transforming an old farm silo on the property into a livable space.

Rather than removing it, Gerald chose to reimagine the structure, carefully planning around its circular design. The finished silo now rises four stories and stands about 45 feet tall.Inside, the space feels warm and inviting, proving that with creativity and thoughtful design, a simple agricultural structure can become a memorable retreat celebrating sustainability and rural living.
