Lauren Chapin, best known for playing Kathy “Kitten” Anderson on the classic 1950s sitcom Father Knows Best, has died, according to TMZ. She was 80. Chapin gained national recognition as the youngest member of the Anderson family during the show’s six-season run from 1954 to 1960. She later reunited with the cast for a Father Knows Best reunion and Christmas special in 1977.
The beloved series followed the Anderson family, led by father Jim Anderson (Robert Young) and mother Margaret (Jane Wyatt), as they navigated everyday life in middle-class America. With its gentle humor and heartfelt life lessons, the show became one of the defining family sitcoms of the 1950s and earned multiple Emmy Awards. It originally began on radio before transitioning to television.
Chapin began her acting career with an uncredited role in the 1954 film A Star Is Born, starring Judy Garland, and also appeared on the CBS anthology series Lux Video Theatre. After Father Knows Best, she took on roles in General Electric Theater, the 1976 musical comedy The Amorous Adventures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, and the 1980 film Scout’s Honor.

Following many years away from Hollywood, Chapin returned to acting with a recurring role in the 2016 family drama School Bus Diaries. Outside acting, Chapin managed artists, including her daughter, Latin pop singer Summer Healy-Chapin. She also authored two books and helped raise more than $2 million for programs supporting underprivileged and abused children.
