Oscar must’ve sensed her and came to get help. I gave her food and called the sheriff. She clung to me, not wanting to leave. Eventually, she did—but I made sure to get the social worker’s number.

That day, something shifted. We’d been focused on money struggles, house repairs, and long hours. But Oscar reminded me that we might be doing more good than we think.
