Diner Complains About Worker, So Pizza Shop Hangs Perfect Sign

Amanda, a businesswoman and mother of a child with Down Syndrome, runs her restaurant with a mission to support individuals with disabilities. Understanding the challenges they face, she hires and empowers employees with special needs, assigning tasks tailored to their strengths.

When a rude customer harassed an autistic employee for not performing a task he wasn’t trained for, Amanda stood firm. The customer suggested a sign warning about disabled employees, so Amanda responded creatively by putting up a sign that read:
“WE ARE PROUD TO BE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER AND HIRE ALL OF GOD’S CHILDREN.”

Amanda explained this was a way to appreciate her employees and protect their emotional well-being. As for the customer, she said, “If he’s not OK with that, I’m OK with him not coming back.”
