The Tiny Button on Your Seat Belt: Why It Matters
The small plastic button on a seat belt, called a stop or retainer button, keeps the metal latch plate from sliding too far down. Without it, grabbing the latch plate would be inconvenient and frustrating.
Most seat belts have two buttons: one near the latch plate to stop it from slipping down and another higher up to keep it in place near the shoulder strap.
If the button breaks, it’s easy to replace with tools and parts from auto stores. Though small, this button plays a big role in keeping seat belts convenient and functional.
