After a massive earthquake struck Mexico, many survivors camped outdoors in fear of aftershocks. Tragedy struck again when a military helicopter, carrying top officials surveying the damage, crashed while landing in Jamiltepec, Oaxaca—hitting vehicles where survivors had taken shelter. The crash killed 14 people on the ground, including three children, and injured 21 others.
All passengers on the helicopter, including Oaxaca’s governor and the interior secretary, survived with minor injuries.Officials stated the pilot lost control just 100 feet above ground. The military has taken full responsibility and pledged support to the affected community.
