Brooklyn Nets player Kyrie Irving once again showed kindness and generosity by giving a young Howard University student $22,000 to assist her finish her education at the historically Black university.
Irving, 30, reportedly gave the money out without any fanfare at all, according to the New York Post.
Destiny Thompson was the pupil who requested financial assistance.
The GoFundMe page was initially created by the Civil Engineering and Mathematics student to assist raise $6,000 for her tuition at the university.
But Irving’s huge donation meant his fellow New Jersey native received even more than she initially wanted.
After she became aware of the money raised, Thompson shared an emotional Facebook post expressing gratitude to everyone who donated.
“I cried just a lot of tears,” the Howard University student said in the video. “I’m at work, y’all.
I don’t understand, like, I can’t really wrap my head around how like generous people can be.
I am so thankful for everybody that shared it, everybody that had liked, commented and gave me encouraging words, and just kind of helped me keep going and essentially.
I’m just so grateful and joyful right now. I’m so very appreciative because I never in a million years imagined that anyone would give me anything.
And Mr. Kyrie Irving, I want to thank you a million times for blessing me in this way. Really, I have no idea. I’m still in disbelief. I’m cleaning registers at work.
Irving has committed numerous such acts of generosity that add up to his donation.
Additionally, the Brooklyn Nets star recently gave $65,000 to the family of Shanquella Robinson, a Black woman who passed away in Mexico while on vacation with her friends.
Irving also gave the family of Devin Chandler another $50,000 via GoFundMe.
