A nurse in Essex, England, found an abandoned suitcase on her way to work, which contained 15 kittens, just 3 to 5 weeks old, hidden in a bush. The bag had holes for ventilation, suggesting someone wanted the kittens to survive. It was left near an animal refuge.
The nurse alerted shelter worker Alison Gamble, who confirmed the kittens were in good condition but had been separated from their mother. Since they were still too young to eat solid food, they required immediate care.
The kittens are now being cared for at the shelter, though six have eye infections. Staff are monitoring them closely until they are old enough to be adopted.
